The longwire antenna usually is up in the clear above household electrical noise. But the wire connecting the antenna to the radio comes down near the computers, light dimmers, fluorescent lights, and other noise makers. |

The Magnetic Longwire Balun lets you use coaxial cable for the downlead. The shield of the cable keeps out the noise to give quieter reception. |

Coaxial cables are 50 to 75 ohms. The antenna is several thousand ohms. The step-up balun gives a much improved match for better signal strength. |

The balun also protects the radio against static discharge by routing static electricity direct to ground instead of through the radio. |
