Cell phone radiation is mostly from its antenna. The “hands-free” accessory moves the antenna away from the head thus reducing the radiation absorbed by the body. However, it is possible for the headset cable to carry radiation from the phone up to the head. This can be stopped by a ferrite bead put on the cable close to the phone. |

Ferrite is a special formulation of iron that has been developed to absorb radio frequency radiation. Palomar’s FSB-1/4 is an inch long, one ounce ferrite bead that has been cut in half and mounted in a black plastic cover that snaps shut like a clamshell. |

Place it near the phone. Then wrap the headphone cable twice around one side of the split bead and close the snap cover. This holds the bead in place. It will stop any radiation from going up the cable. |
